MuzArt: Summer Arts Camp

The Yuba-Sutter Regional Arts Council is pleased to announce a new summer arts experience for young people in our community: MuzArt!

MuzArt is a three-week day camp for young artists ages 6 – 12, where they will have daily sessions developing their skills and artistry in the musical, dramatic and visual arts. For its inaugural year, the theme for this year’s MuzArt summer arts experience is: America the Beautiful. Through the artistic mediums of song, visual art, and theatre we will learn more about the rich history of our wonderful country. The culmination of the three weeks will be an Artist Reception for family and friends to come see the work of their young artists. The artwork will be on display and there will be a musical and dramatic presentation showcasing the young artists.

A highly trained faculty of artist teachers, who all have strong ties to the Yuba-Sutter community, will guide the young artists through this arts experience. Local artist and schoolteacher, Sarah Irvine will be the principal instructor of the art sessions. Ms. Irvine holds a Master Degree in Education as well as a Bachelor degree in Art and English from UC Davis. She was recently awarded the “Teacher of the Year” award from the Plumas Lake School District. Joining her in the art department is Linda Elrod, a veteran Yuba-Sutter schoolteacher and production manager of the Borgamaria Lyric Opera. Ms. Elrod also has a strong background in teaching social studies, and will incorporate the history of the American Revolution in the art curriculum. Musician and stage director K.J. Pereira will lead the sessions in Music and Theatre. Mr. Pereira is in the process of completing his doctorate in opera performance and stage direction from Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, and he is a member of the music and voice faculty at the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire.

The dates of the program are June 11 – 29th, Monday – Friday from 9:00 to 12:30 at the Yuba-Sutter Regional Arts Council’s Lee Burrows Center for the Arts on 7th and E Streets in Marysville. There will be two Artist Reception events, the first on Friday, June 29th at 7:30 pm and the second of Saturday, June 30th at 3:00 pm.

The tuition for the program is $300.00. If there are multiple children from one family, the cost for the second child is $260.00. For each additional child, the tuition is $230.00 a child. A $50.00 non-refundable deposit for each child is due when you sign-up to secure your child’s place in the program. The remainder of the tuition is due June 1, 2012.
